The daughter of an interior designer and real estate investor/rug dealer, Tinsley grew up in Richmond, Va. and attended boarding school in New Jersey, before enrolling at the University of North Carolina and later transferring to Columbia. After graduating in 1998, Tinsley worked briefly as an assistant at Vogue. She then enrolled at Parsons, only to drop out after four months. But thanks to her longtime boyfriend Topper, she soon landed at the PR firm Harrison & Shriftman, where she planned parties and worked various events around town. That, too, didn’t last very long: In 2002, she gave up on the notion of a day job when she tied the knot with Topper (Now divorced) and focused her energies on rising to the top of the social ladder. She’s since established herself as one of the most popular young socials on the scene.

Mortimer has a line of handbags and clothing in Japan for Samantha Thavasa, for which she was featured in an advertising campaign. She subsequently formed her own clothing line, Riccime by Tinsley Mortimer, which is available in select stores in Japan, including Isetan. Tinsley has been involved in numerous fashion shows and reportedly once shoved Olivia Palermo during a modeling gig!. In 2008 Mortimer became involved in branding and design for condominium development.  She also made a cameo appearance on the season two premiere episode of Gossip Girl and on March 10, 2010 her own reality television show ‘High Society’ aired, which documents the lives of her and her friends.  Mortimer also contributed a section to the best selling book entitled The Park Avenue Diet  that outlined recommendations on how to perfect your conversation and social skills. The book was written by Manhattan diet expert Dr. Stuart Fischer. So…basically she is out and about climbing the social ladder and taking whatever jobs come across the table including endorsement deals to show up at parties.
